Be Still and Know

Recent events have taken me back
to a day when life felt way off track
a friend, a mentor, a truly great one
had left the world, too soon to be taken

I will never forget that Sabbath morn
as I entered the church, my heart was torn
I felt despair, unable to grasp
how could this happen, gone so fast

He served with love all those around
truly no guile in him could be found
I remember his smile, his quiet way
I thought of him on that Sabbath day

My heart cried out Lord, how could this be?
The opening hymn held the answer for me
"Be still my soul" were the words I sang
Peace and calm were the feelings that came

Know that he is in control,
"Be still my soul"
"Be still my soul"

The Journey

I wrote this poem upon the death of my Father in Law.

The Journey

a young spirit comes from God
pure, clean, and
ready to be loved and taught

a growing spirit returns to God
tested, proved, and
ready to be loved and taught

a mature spirit lives with God
crowned, glorified and
ready to love and teach

a beautiful spirit, the son of God
scourged, sacrificed, and triumphant made the journey possible
